Gipson Steel was founded in 1976 by E.M. “Hoot” Gipson. Prior to 1976, Mr. Gipson had worked within the structural steel industry for 23 years. Since our creation, Gipson Steel has become a firm that employs approximately 80 people, fabricates over 7,000 tons of steel per year, and has developed a repeat customer base that covers the southeast.
In following its customers, Gipson Steel has completed projects in California, New York, Michigan, South Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Aruba, Guatemala, Ghana, Togo, and Latvia.
Mr. Gipson and his son Scott are both past chairmen of the Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Mr. Gipson's grandson, Mike, will move us into a third generation. Gipson Steel is certified by the American Institution of Steel Construction (AISC) for Certification Standard for Steel Building Structures.
Steel Teaching SculptureMississippi State University is one of at least 135 colleges and universities in the United States that has a steel teaching sculpture for students to learn about steel framing and connections in a “hands-on” application manner. In 2000, Gipson Steel, Inc. donated the steel structure to Mississippi State University’s College of Engineering in support of higher education in the state and nation and in support of the steel fabrication industry worldwide. The sculpture includes every AISC-approved steel-to-steel connection, including welding and bolt-up connections.
